We work from a stylish, modern, homely interior, spaciously set up, where everyone has their own professional workplace and there is the possibility to withdraw to separate rooms for consultations in both formal and informal settings. We work in an open office environment with short lines and transparency. We have a separate lunch facility with a football table and lounge area to relax in between. Our location is very easily accessible, located along the highway with ample parkingspace.

Private companies prepared to use modern financing instruments to benefit from opportunities in economic downturn

Companies should proactively reconsider their financing strategies. There is a risk that in the aftermath of the economic downturn, bank loans will become considerably more expensive or will not be renewed particularly for borderline and non-investment-grade borrowers.

Many traditionally financed medium – sized companies not willing to embrace change will be under pressure. They have received unprecedented amounts of bank loans, a considerable proportion which were granted in the form of short-term, supposedly cheap bank loans. Short term bank debt will now put a strain on both profitability and cash flow and expose many to risk due to the short-term nature of the financing commitments.

Proactive private companies across all sectors can shift and consider the liquid “private debt market” to secure longer-term financing solutions with bullet maturities or a low repayment rate. Additionally, raising subordinated capital, preferred capital, preferred equity or mezzanine capital up to minority shareholdings, entrepreneurs can increase their flexibility in different business situations. They will achieve financing security and the flexibility to take advantage of attractive investment and acquisition opportunities.

Please feel free to talk to us, we are constantly in touch with approx. 200 debt and mezzanine capital providers, many of which are currently open for business and remain providing financing to medium – sized companies.

Ervin Schellenberg of Capitalmind Investec explains in an interview why companies should look for alternative financing instruments.

Together with ZLTO, ABN Amro and PwC, Capitalmind Investec hosted the 9th edition of the inspiring food event: Voedingsbodem voor Groei. For the first time, the event took place at an external location: the Venco Campus of Vencomatic Group in Eersel, The Netherlands.

The event revolved around the trends of healthy and fresh food in combination with convenience for the end-customer. Central themes include product innovation, marketing knowledge and the customer as focal point of attention. The main question was thus: how to innovate?

Several external speakers attended such as:
Lotte van de Ven (CEO Vencomatic), on innovating in a traditional sector;
Jos van Mil (Managing Partner product & market innovation Greenco) about packaging innovations and
Tim Hehenkamp (Executive Dirctor Data & Pesonalisation Jumbo) on individualizing the customer.

After the official program, there were drinks, bites and the possibility to discuss the content and experiences of the day – a nice ending of an inspiring day. If you were not able to join, but are curious to the event, please contact us or send an email to info@voedingsbodemvoorgroei.nl. We would like to get in touch with you! After all, next year is our 10th edition of this event.

Valuations in the middle market

Transactions often fail on lack of preparation and unrealistic valuation expectations

“We see many middle market owners and international buyers enter discussions without proper preparation and thus encounter high transaction risk” says Wilhelm Bollmann, Bollmann, Spielmann & Kollegen.

A company sale needs to be well prepared: what am I selling, what is nature of the business I am selling, how does my value expectation compare to prices paid in the market.

“Prices paid in transactions can fluctuate massively even within a sector e.g. we saw bids ranging from 6x EBITDA to 25x EBITDA in a sale in the industrial space” says Ervin Schellenberg, Capitalmind Investec. Download the full interview
